About

The Telltale Quilt Company offers a modern, personalized spin on the American folk classic. These are not your grandmother's quilts (unless you want them to be, of course). A Telltale Quilt tells a story that you want to tell. It starts with your imagination and is an active collaboration between you and our anything-but-traditional designer, Emily Rapley.

You just tell Emily the themes that you want the quilt to be about.Your sister, who loves the ocean, the beach, cute animals, and ice cream is having a baby? No problem, we can make her the perfect baby quilt. Your brother-in-law, who loves the Yankees, the Giants, beer, pretzels, and button-down shirts? We've got you (and him) covered.

How does it work?

  1. Contact us using the form below or by phone and tell us the story that you want to tell about the lucky quilt owner-to-be.
  2. Emily searches the four corners of the universe for the perfect fabrics and then sketches a unique design, so detailed that you can see what the fabrics look like.
  3. We email you the sketch and you get to review it, make suggestions for changes, or just approve it,
  4. We hand-craft your soft, warm, personal Telltale Quilt using pre-washed cotton fabrics, natural batting (the puffy stuff in the middle that makes it warm) in our studio in an old textile mill in Lowell, MA. Yes, that's right - here in the good 'ole USA!
  5. We mail the quilt to you or directly to the recipient.

Prices regularly start at $200 for a custom baby quilt, but we're doing introductory pricing through the end of the year. So, through 2015, baby quilts are only $150!!!

About Emily Rapley

Emily started out with a degree in Fashion Design and has worked as a fashion and theatrical costume designer for over 20 years while designing and making quilts for herself, family, and friends in her free time. (Don't ask me how she had any - as she also raised a son to adulthood and went back to school and got a Master's from Harvard.)

Examples of Our Work

Nepal Baby Quilt

A client who had recently spent several months in Nepal was pregnant and wanted to use and some folk art that she brought back with her and another Telltale Quilt that she'd seen as the inspiration for a quilt for her baby

She sent us pictures of her inspiration pieces:

She was exstatic with the final result, but she wasn't the only one... Her daughter, now 16 months, won't do family time  without it, fetching it from her room before climbing on to the couch!

Beach and sunflowers Baby Quilt

This quilt was ordered by someone whose friend was pregnant with her first baby, a girl. The mother-to-be had an eclectic collection of things that she loved: The beach and the ocean, ice cream, cute animals and sunflowers. Not a problem!

As you can see, Emily does not restrict herself to traditional squares here, creating unique looks using many strips of fabric and adding dimensionality with handcrafted applique flowers.

Sun and Moon Quilt

The inspirations for this kid's quilt were the sun, moon, animals and bold colors.
